As we enter the beginning of June, I find myself reflecting on May and all that the month represents. When I think of May, I think of springtime — a season of growth and renewal — and also a time to honor and remember mothers.
I had an amazing mom. She passed away 28 years ago, but I feel a deep love whenever I think of her, which is often. Her memory lives in my heart, always.
I'm also thankful to have some amazing children of my own. Every year, I receive beautiful vases filled with flowers and heartfelt cards. I feel truly blessed to be surrounded by people who love me — and who aren’t shy about showing it. So, to my children: thank you.
If you're reading this and you're a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt who stepped in as a mother, or a friend who became that mother figure someone needed — I say thank you. Thank you for your kindness, your presence, and your love.
Recently, I learned something powerful: Elaine Brown, former Chairwoman of the Black Panther Party, stepped in to be a mother figure to a young boy she calls Little B. I wondered why I hadn’t heard this story before — but now that I have, I’m diving deeper by reading her latest book,
New Age Racism in America: The Condemnation of Little B. Maybe you already know the story. But if not, I encourage you to check out the book. I believe it’s worth reading.
Market Insights
Now to discuss real estate. I recently read a post on LinkedIn that stated we’re in a buyer’s market. This may be true in some areas, but not here in the Bay Area. I believe when we’re posting information on any subject, we should consider the audience. I live in Oakland, so I ran the numbers for Oakland for single family homes and condos. If you are looking for a single family home, we are still in a seller’s market. In order to be in a buyer’s market, we will need to have 6 months of inventory. However, we have 2.4 months of inventory for single family homes. But, if you’re in the market for a condo or townhome, now would be a great time to buy because we have 6 months of inventory!
