Our 2026 Goal: Helping Families with Major Life Changes
It’s hard to believe we are ending our 3rd quarter of 2026. Where has the time gone? Sometimes life moves so fast that one can hardly catch up with the day-to-day tasks. That’s how it is when one thinks they have more time to organize the house, the paperwork, and life’s challenging situations. One day you wake up to a major change in your life, and there’s no turning back.
When I returned home from North Carolina after handling family business, I called a friend of mine, and she didn’t answer my call. The next time I saw her, I asked her, “How are you?” She proceeded to tell me she’d had a heart attack and was in the hospital for over a week before she woke up. She didn’t remember getting into the ambulance. The last thing she remembered was calling 911. She’s doing fine today, and life is pretty much back to normal, but that’s how quickly life can change.
I share this story because here at EMREG, we work with trusted vendors who can help you sort through what you’ve built up over the years – privately, at your own pace, and without judgment. Please call/text 510.386.0547 or email

Healthy Living Corner
Are You Eating Too Much Fiber?
Most of us still don't get enough fiber. Women are advised to aim for about 25 grams a day and men about 38, yet the average American eats only 16. Fiber supports regular digestion, steadier blood sugar, and healthier cholesterol, and fiber-rich diets are linked to lower rates of heart disease, diabetes, and colon cancer. But the social media trend called "fibermaxxing," eating double the guidelines or more, isn't the answer. Registered dietitian Caroline Arthaud of Brigham and Women's Hospital says there's little evidence that going well past the goal adds benefits. What it can do is cause bloating, gas, cramping, and even constipation. Very high amounts can also make it harder to absorb calcium, iron, and zinc over time.
Her advice for getting there comfortably: get fiber from whole foods like beans, berries, oats, and vegetables rather than fiber-boosted cookies and bars. Add about 5 grams a day, give your body a few days to adjust, then add more. Spread fiber across meals and snacks, and drink about 8 cups of fluid a day. If you need a boost, try a tablespoon or two of chia seeds, or ask your doctor about a supplement like psyllium. The goal is a varied, plant-rich way of eating you can stick with, not the highest number.
To find these programs: ask your doctor or care coordinator about a referral, check your health insurance (some Medicare Advantage and Medicaid plans cover them), or look into local community organizations — eligibility rules vary by state.
