"Eloise made it work for me and I'm happy to the be the proud owner of a modest fixer upper in West Oakland - my new home for BBQing and work/live space. Looking for property is difficult in the Bay area, especially one near the last Oakland BART stop from downtown SF. It took a very dedicated and strategic approach to finding the ideal match. We started the process in Nov of last year and worked as a team. Some hurdles we faced were low inventory, unresponsive sellers, and those wanting CASH only. Not a good vibe to start the process. I was also determined to come in under $500,000 for a single family and in West Oakland (though I did look at other Bay area regions, housing types, and pricing considerations to justify my logic). We looked at each property from top to bottom, gauged if we should make an offer and followed through where necessary, even where we didn't make the cut. Our first offer was accepted, but hit some lending hurdles due to property construction type. It took over 7 other offers before we found a winner in West Oakland in April.
